Women's gymnastics judging is one of the most rewarding and most difficult experiences in life. We are parents, coaches, retired or collegiate gymnasts, and people who just love the sport and the athletes. Almost all of us have full-time jobs outside the gym. We are trained, tested, and evaluated on our ability to apply a set of rules that we did not create (and may not always agree with) in an impartial and fair way. Our job is to determine which gymnast did the best job on that particular day based on the rules. Not one of us wants to give a low score, but the only way to reward the BEST performance is to be consistent in our application of deductions. Women's gymnastics judges work hard at keeping up with rule clarifications, spend time at clinics and workshops, practice judge with more experienced people and learn from each other. The LaNAWGJ webpage will attempt to keep all our members (and parents and coaches who stop by) informed of the latest rules, clarifications, requirements, events, responsibilities, training opportunities and calendars, as well as lure some of you unsuspecting folks into the wonderful world of judging.
